The Tajik Metallurgical Plant will be built in the Bobodjon-Gafurov district of Tajikstan’s Sughd region, according to an online report by GMK Center, and will create in the region of 2,000 jobs.

Phase one development will be completed by 2027 and phase two in 2031. The 2.5Mt/yr ore enrichment facility will create thousands of jobs in the area and is being built with domestic and foreign capital.

The projected capacity of the plant will be 2.5Mt/yr of ore, producing 1.1Mt of concentrate with an iron content of 62-65%. Some of the products will be exported, claims GMK Center.

Infrastructure in the shape of a 220 kV power line, water supply, road and rail lines will ensure stable operation, it is reported.

Proven iron ore reserves in the region are estimated to be around 60Mt.
