LanzaTech, a producer of low-carbon content fuels and chemicals from waste gases, has for the second year in a row been named in the TiE50 as a leader in entrepreneurship, innovation, and management excellence.

The TiE50 awards are being presented at TiEcon 2012, the world’s largest conference of entrepreneurs, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, California, May 18-19. The 50 winners of 2012 were chosen from more than 2100 promising companies.

LanzaTech uses a proprietary fermentation process to convert gases (including industrial waste gases and gas derived from any biomass source) into fuels and chemicals. A full description of the technology, as well as a video, is available at http://www.lanzatech.com/content/lanzatech-process.

Several steel companies are exploring LanzaTech’s technology to produce ethanol from CO captured at the BOF. A pilot plant is in operation at New Zealand Steel and other steel companies supporting the work are Shougang and Baosteel in China, Posco in S Korea and Jindal Steel & Power in India.
