Kurum International has awarded Danieli the contract for a new MIDA (Micromill Danieli) plant to be installed in Elbasan, Albania.

The project marks the first greenfield MIDA installation in Europe, following 29 MIDA plants already supplied or under construction worldwide.

Danieli highlighted that the new plant is designed to produce over 700Kt/year of deformed bars and compact coils.

The scope of supply includes a meltshop featuring a 75t EAF equipped with an ECS continuous scrap-charging system, a 75t ladle furnace, a material-handling system and a fume-treatment plant.

Danieli also added that the 12m continuous casting machine with octagonal mould will ensure consistent casting at speeds exceeding 7m/min.

MIDA-QLP is the only technology that enables true green steel production and the lowest achievable transformation costs from scrap to finished products, supporting sustainable operations.

Startup is scheduled for Q4 2027.
