Indian steelmaker JSW Steel is talking to the Algerian Cevital Group with a view to acquiring the Aferpi steel mill in Italy, according to online media reports.
JSW had tried to buy the mill in 2014 when it was known as Lucchini, but Cevital got there first and changed the name to Aferpi.
It is rumoured that JSW will pay in the region of US$100 million for Aferpi and that the plan is to increase capacity from it’s current 18Mt/yr to 40-45Mt/yr by 2030.
