Primetals Technologies has been awarded a contract by JSW Steel Salem to implement advanced process optimisation solutions at a Salem plant. The plant in Tamil Nadu, India, will be installed with process automation systems at the meltshop and casting areas.
The upgrades are intended to increase JSW Steel Salem’s production consistency, improve product quality, enhance operational efficiency and reduce production-related costs.
Furthermore. the upgrades will also include the installation of four ladle furnaces, two vacuum degassers, two energy optimisation furnaces and two three-strand bloom casters. It is hoped these systems will minimise manual operator input and stabilise the production process through metallurgical models and dynamic process control systems.
JSW Steel is one of the largest integrated steel producers in India, producing 35.7 Mt of crude steel a year. The Salem plant is also the largest special alloy steel plant in India, with a capacity of 1 Mt per year.
