The revamp of the Jindal Steel & Power Ltd caster Raigarh, Chhattisgarh, is intended to expand the company’s quality steel grades and slab dimensions.
This will enable JSPL to add high tech pipe and tube grades (API), high-carbon steels and microalloyed peritectic grades to its range. The current slab size of max 2600mm width and max 280mm thickness will be increased to 3000mm width and 300mm thickness. The plant is rated for an annual production of 1.3Mt of steel slabs. Commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2013.
As part of the modernization, SMS Siemag will supply a completely new strand guide system. The ladle turret will be retained. The existing hydraulic systems will be upgraded in line with the new requirements. The modernization scope will also include SMS Siemag's supply of the dummy bar system, new moulds as well as a new run-out and torch cutting equipment.
Also included will be the complete X-Pact® electrical and automation package, including the control systems and process models.
The caster will be equipped with several ISC modules (Intelligent Slab Casting) which are decisive to the quality of the product and production. Among these are remote-adjustable narrow sides of the mould for width changes and taper adjustments during casting and position-controlled segment adjustment for performing Dynamic Soft Reduction. Width-dependent air-mist secondary cooling and a Dynamic Solidification Control process model will guarantee high internal quality is thus guaranteed of the slab.
The Integrated Production Quality System IPQSslab® safeguards the slab quality through the monitoring of all relevant measured data.
