Tenova HYL and Danieli & C SpA will supply India’s Jindal Steel & Power with Energiron ZR DR technology for DRI plants in Angul and Raigarh, India.
The project consists of the installation of four plants using the reformerless Energiron ZR process with a design capacity of 2.75Mt/y each.
The source of reducing gas will be syngas from coal gasification, with the flexibility to operate with natural gas (or alternate gas), when available, taking advantage of the technology of using different energy sources for the same scheme configuration.
The Eenergiron ZR modules are of similar module design as the one currently under implementation for Nucor Steel in Louisiana, which is set to start up in 2013 and will be the largest single DR module in the world.
Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) intends to construct the DR plants at various locations with a combined direct-reduced iron production capacity exceeding 10Mt of highly metallised DRI to supply its steel plants.
The Energiron ZR process provides low plant operating costs and allows the selective capture of carbon dioxide, which can be commercialised as a by-product
JSPL has a total capacity of more than 7Mt/y DRI capacity which is under operation/installation at its plants in Raigarh and Angul India, Oman and Bolivia.
