Sohar based steel pipes manufacturer Al Jazeera Steel Products has decided to cease exports to Canada following Ottawa’s decision to impose steep anti-dumping duties on its pipe products.
The Canada International Trade Tribune (CITT) has imposed an anti-dumping duty amounting to 54.2% on its pipe exports to Canada.
The measure came despite an earlier ruling by the Tribunal that Al Jazeera’s Steel’s products caused no ‘injury’ to local steel manufacturers.
‘Even though the Tribunal made a determination that dumped imports originating in Oman have not caused injury, it found that these imports could threaten and cause injury to the Canadian industry in future,’ the Omani listed company said in a disclosure notification to the Capital Market Authority.
As its business interest in Canada are limited, and the potential of speculative volumes is not substantial Jazeera Steel say they have decided not to export to Canada and there shall be no impact on the operation of the company.
