Iranian steel company Khorasan Steel has started construction of its first DRI module which will have a capacity of 800kt/y.
The company currently has a steelmaking capacity of 630kt/y but plans to raise it to 1.6Mt/y.
This will be accomplished by upgrading its smelting capacity to 800kt and by setting up a steel shop in the next three years with an 800kt/y capacity. Two new DRI plants will feed the steel shop.
The company is based on a 1400 hectare site near the northeastern city of Neishabour.
