German steelmaker thyssenkrupp Steel, in collaboration with Smart Steel Technologies, has launched an intelligent scheduling system for its extensively modernized production network in Duisburg - Bruckhausen. The new system, it is claimed, ensures highly efficient processes to provide high-quality products to customers.

The German steelmaker's new software solution now automatically schedules one of the most advanced plant networks in the European steel industry. This network includes the new continuous casting line number four, a completely modernized hot strip mill number four, and a slab storage facility. The system is automated, intelligent, and features fast reactive scheduling.

According to Smart Steel Technologies, the new system lifts the level of production planning automation at thyssenkrupp Steel. The system was developed and tested in close collaboration between the two German companies before being used in production.

"A strong impetus for the digital future of the steel industry," concluded Stefan Kemmer and Christian Lang, project management at thyssenkrupp Steel, along with Dr. Falk-Florian Henrich, founder and CEO of Smart Steel Technologies.

Smart Steel Technologies will also handle the future maintenance and further development of the system.
