As demand grows for its Magnelis coated steel, ArcelorMittal, the world’s biggest steelmaker, has announced that production is now taking place in Spain at the company’s galvanising line number 2 at Avilés.

Magnelis is used in a wide range of industries and end applications, claims ArcelorMittal, and is now produced in Belgium, Germany and Spain.

Over the past three years, consumption of Magnelis has tripled.

According to ArcelorMittal, the product has enjoyed marked success in the solar industry where it has become the industry’s reference product for ground-mounted structures. It is also becoming the product of choice in harsh outdoor and indoor environments.

Galvanising line no.2 at Avilés has been adapted to product Magnelis and has been producing it since May in thicknesses ranging from 0.5 to 2mm.

ArcelorMittal claims that Magnelis offers ‘a breakthrough in corrosion protection, ensuring optimal surface protection against long-term wear and tear. “This revolutionary new coating has proven to perform significantly better than alternative European products,” the company said.

Typical applications for Magnelis include: safety barriers for road infrastructures; agricultural equipment; industrial equipment, such as cooling towers; and tubes and profiles for building and construction applications.
