Hydnum Steel, the first green steel plant on the Iberian Peninsula, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Knauf Interfer, a European steel processing and distribution company.
The partnership aims to boost the supply of emission-free green steel in Europe. Both companies will collaborate closely to advance towards a more efficient and environmentally friendly value chain, reaffirming commitment to sustainability in the steel industry.
Under this agreement, Knauf Interfer will purchase green steel from Hydnum for an approximate value of €80 million per year. Additionally, they will create a green steel supply network, utilizing Knauf Interfer’s production and supply chain management platform centered around a trimodal hub in Duisburg, Germany. This inner port location will serve as a key hub to serve customers in CentralEuropean markets, optimizing logistics and ensuring efficient, resilient and sustainable deliveries, Hydnum Steel says.
As part of their commitment to sustainability, the two companies plan to establish a circular economy system to recycle ferrous scrap together. This concept will allow scrap generated by Knauf Interfer's network to be recycled at Hydnum Steel’s Puertollano plant, closing the production loop and ensuring a complete circular economy.
