Hydnum Steel has secured €60m in funding for its green steel plant in Puertollano, Spain.

The €60m comes from the second call for proposals by Spain’s Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) programme.

The plant is set to have an annual production of 1.5Mt of flat steel products per year. It is designed to utilise fossil-fuel-free energy throughout the production process.

The project is being developed in partnership with Helvella, Siemens, ABEI Energy and Russula.

The total investment of the project is expected to be around €1.6bn.

5,000 jobs will be created in Puertollano, with the start of construction set for December 2026.
