A minimill is under construction in the Kashmir valley at the Rangreth Industrial Estate.
Himalayan Rolling Steel Industries Pvt, part of the JK Group, intends to roll structural steels including high strength thermal mechanical transformed steels in a mill driven with AC drives which will be fully automated and reduce fluctuations on the power supply. The mill will have a captive power station capable of generate 6MW.
An investment on INR 1bn (US$18.5M) is being made to build the mill.
