Hebei province was poised to cut more than 60Mt of steel capacity in an effort to save energy and reduce emission significantly, said Zhang Qingwei, governor of the Hebei province.

Zhang said steel capacity in Hebei had reached over 200Mt. Over the past five years, the province has closed 48. 92Mt of blast furnace capacity, accounting for 41.8% of the country’s total target, and 34.96Mt of steelmaking capacity, making up 44.8% the country’s total elimination target.
