Chinese steel producer HBIS Tangsteel, a part of HBIS Group has started up its fourth slab caster provided by Primetals Technologies.
The caster has a capacity of 2.4Mt per year and can produce slabs with thicknesses from 200mm to 250mm and widths of 800mm to 1600mm.
The first two slab casters were installed in 2020, followed by a third in 2023. The company now operates eight slab caster strands all supplied by Primetals, combining for an annual production capacity of 9.6Mt of slabs.
Primetals outlined that the new continuous caster incorporates several technological innovations to ensure high-quality slabs, such as the DynaFlex hydraulic oscillator. DynaFlex allows for flexible adjustment of mold oscillation parameters such as curves, strokes and frequency, resulting in improved surface quality.
Primetals also highlighted the use of automation solutions to ensure, consistent, stable operation and high product quality.
HBIS Group, one of China’s largest steel manufacturers, founded HBIS Tangsteel New District in Laoting in 2017 to relocate production capacity from the city of Tangshan.
