Primetals Technologies has received the provisional acceptance certificate (PAC) for the world’s largest push-pull pickling line at HBIS Tangsteel’s plant in Laoting, China.

Primetals supplied the complete mechanical, electrical, and automation scope – plus engineering and advisory services.

The new line processes strip thicknesses between 1.8mm and 15mm at speeds of up to 200m per minute. This enables a wide product mix, usually only possible with two conventional continuous pickling lines.

The company outlined how target process optimisation and the use of control technology have resulted in quality steel coils up to 12mm thick. The optimised winding quality ensures more consistent strip tension control, reduced offsets between layers, and improved edge guidance.

Therefore, Primetals highlighted how this allows the line to deliver improved surface quality, fewer rejects, and more options for further coil processing.

Furthermore, the line is supported by a solution for automated analysis and control of the pickling process, allowing operators a comprehensive overview and the ability to manage the process with high precision.

HBIS Tangsteel is one of the largest state-owned iron and steel enterprises in China, with its main products including hot-rolled and cold-rolled sheet. Their products are used in equipment and technologies such as automobiles, machinery manufacturing and infrastructure.
