GreenIron and Scandinavian Steel AB, a leading distributor of metals, have signed a collaboration agreement under which the latter will become the exclusive distributor of GreenIron’s fossil-free iron, produced in Sandviken, Sweden.

The agreement covers a regular delivery of hydrogen DRI*, which will be offered to the Nordic and European markets.

The partnership marks a ‘significant and meaningful step towards the future, where sustainability and innovation take centre stage’. Offering the market a fossil-free product, aligned with global climate goals, is a crucial step forward for both companies and the industry as a whole.

Peter Witz, COO of Scandinavian Steel commented: "This partnership is a milestone not just for Scandinavian Steel but for the entire industry. Offering fossil-free iron to our customers is not only important – it is essential. We are proud to be the first distributor in the world to deliver this groundbreaking product to the market."

"Our collaboration with Scandinavian Steel is a crucial part of our strategy to bring our technology to customers in the Nordics and Europe. Their expertise and extensive network make them an ideal partner in driving the green transition within the metal industry."

Scandinavian Steel AB was founded in 1958 and has grown to become a leading distributor of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, pig iron, and alloys to the steel, foundry, and chemical industries worldwide. The company is headquartered in Stockholm and has an office in Beijing as well as agents in Asia and the Americas.

Edward Murray, CEO GreenIron added: "Our collaboration with Scandinavian Steel is a crucial part of our strategy to bring our technology to customers in the Nordics and Europe. Their expertise and extensive network make them an ideal partner in driving the green transition within the metal industry."

GreenIron H2 AB is a Swedish, private limited company with a patented and proven, energy-efficient technology for reducing metal oxides to pure metals. The process is suitable for the extraction of metals from ore, residues, and waste. The technology is hydrogen-based and thus the only residual product is water. GreenIron has a strong CO2-minimizing focus and aims to shape circular business cycles and increased resource efficiency.

GreenIron is set to begin commercial production in Sandviken next year.

According to GreenIron, the market has already shown significant interest in the company’s fossil-free production technology, which represents a key step toward sustainable and circular metal production. As production scales up, claims GreenIron, it will have a substantial impact on reducing carbon emissions and meeting growing demand for environmentally responsible materials across the industry.
