German crude steel production in March reached its highest monthly level recorded since September 2008.

It reached 3.96Mt according to the information provided by the German steel federation, Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (WV Stahl).

This represents an increase of 91.5% from March 2009, which was a weak month. Meanwhile, on month-on-month basis the country's crude steel output rose by 15.79% in March.

In the first quarter of this year Germany’s crude steel production reached 10.87Mt, rising by 49.4% as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

WV Stahl, predicted a very high growth rate in German crude steel production in the coming quarter, but warned the situation remains fragile due to the strained situation in the raw material markets.
