Gerdau Long Steel North America's mill in Midlothian, Texas, USA has awarded Badische Stahl-Engineering (BSE) a three-year know-how contract.

Badische is a German-based steel mill consulting and engineering firm with 40 years of experience in the global steel industry on every continent.

According to Midlothian, Badische was selected for its unique mini-mill philosophy and principle of relying primarily on operational experience.

The two companies launched this latest project as Midlothian considers a strategy to increase production capacity with two AC-EAFs, each with a tapped weight of around 130 tons.

Co-operation between Midlothian and Badische comprises on-site missions, as well as customized workshops and training at the Badische mill in Kehl, Germany.

Based on the results, priorities will be set for each upcoming investment step, which may include further major equipment investments. The top priority, says Badische, is to increase productivity in a sustainable and safe way.
