Jindal Steel has contracted Fives to upgrade the Level-1 control systems of two of its reheating furnaces at its Patratu plant in Balkurda, India.

The two Stein Digital furnaces set to be upgraded have a capacity of 160t and 200t, respectively.

Fives highlighted that the project will allow Jindal Steel to operate its production lines at optimal speeds, supporting India’s construction and infrastructure sectors.

Other improvements include: modernised PLC hardware and operating platforms, the installation of a high-speed optical communication network, and new engineering and operating stations.

Fives added that Jindal Steel will benefit from enhanced process reliability, faster response times, reduced maintenance requirements, and greater fuel flexibility.

Furthermore, due to the project's short implementation schedule and limited shutdown period, the customer will achieve improved operational performance quickly while minimising production downtime.
