Fives has signed a contract for the design and supply of annealing furnaces for three new lines at JSW Steel’s Vijayanagar Works in Torangallu, India.
The project will see the design and construction of three processing lines dedicated to the production of non-grain-oriented electrical steel grades:
- One Annealing and Pickling Line (APL) with an annual capacity of 600kT
- Two Annealing and Coating Lines (ACLs), each with an annual capacity of 270kT
Benjamin Michel, President of the steel and glass business unit at Fives, said: "This contract reflects the strength of our expertise in annealing technologies for electrical steel production and our proven ability to deliver high-performance processing solutions for demanding applications.
“Backed by a strong portfolio of successful electrical steel references worldwide, we have demonstrated our capability to meet the highest quality and productivity requirements. We are proud to support JSW Steel in its long-term growth strategy and contribute to the development of India's advanced steel manufacturing capabilities."
The project will be led by John Cockerill, with completion scheduled for 2028.
Frédéric Martin, managing director of John Cockerill India, added: “Securing this contract is a landmark achievement for John Cockerill in India. Beyond being our first electrical steel project in the country, it reflects the confidence placed in our technology, engineering expertise and execution capabilities.
“As demand for electrical steel continues to grow, driven by electric mobility, renewable energy and industrial electrification, we are proud to support JSW Vijayanagar Metallics in establishing world-class production capabilities that will contribute to India’s industrial growth and energy transition.”
