World crude steel production was 119Mt in February 2012, 1.9% higher than February 2011.

China’s crude steel production for February 2012 was 55.9Mt, an increase of 3.3% y-o-y.

Japan produced 8.6Mt of crude steel, down by 3.7% compared to the same month last year. South Korea’s crude steel production was 5.4Mt, an increase of 7.6% compared to February 2011.

Germany produced 3.6Mt of crude steel in February 2012, a decrease of 3.1% on February 2011.

Turkey’s production was 2.8 Mt, an increase of 12.3% compared to February 2011.

The US produced 7.3Mt, up by 8.5% on February 2011.

Brazil’s crude steel production for February 2012 was 2.8Mt, 3.4% higher than February 2011.

The world crude steel capacity utilisation ratio of the 59 countries in February 2012 increased to 79.7%, 3.1% higher than January 2012. Compared to February 2011, the utilisation ratio in February 2012 decreased by 2.8%.
