Egyptian long-products steelmaker EZDK has completed the performance evaluation of the Danieli shear blades installed at Shear #7 of its wire rod mill, reporting a substantial increase in productivity.

Between July and August of 2024, two sets of Danieli blades, manufactured with DANCUT510 tool steel, were operated on shears 7/1 and 7/2. According to the evaluation, each blade set produced 45,000 tons before the first regrinding, with limited wear of only 3-4mm.

This allowed for multiple regrinding cycles, resulting in a total productivity ranging from 135,000 tons to 225,000 tons per set.

Compared to the 88,000-ton average lifetime of competitor blades, the Danieli DANCUT solution delivered a lifetime increase between 50% and 150%, significantly extending maintenance intervals and improving overall mill availability.

EZDK also highlighted the cost advantages of the Danieli blades as the competitive purchase price and extended lifetime ensure a lower cost-per-ton and reduced maintenance frequency.
