Essar Steel has granulated three iron tappings at its 10Mt/y Hazira, India plant using UHT's Granshot method.

The plant has a capacity to granulate 140t pig iron in less than an hour. The Granshot method is an important buffering possibility between the blast furnace and two Corex 2000 units and the downstream refining and casting processes in the new steelmaking plant.

The produced Granulated Pig Iron is used in the Conarc’s EAF to deoxidise the hot heel steel. Surplus GPI is used as an alternative iron source to HBI or scrap within Essar’s production or is sold as granulated merchant pig iron.
