Two EAF Quantum electric arc furnaces (EAF) from Primetals Technologies have set a world record after achieving up to 50 heats per day. The furnaces are located at the Hubei Shunle site in the Hubei Province, China.

Figures by Primetals show that on top of achieving 48 to 50 heats a day, both EAFs can record tap-to-tap times of less than 28 minutes and have power-on and power-off times of 25 and three minutes respectively.

Increased operation speed is aided by features such as the FAST system, which allows for tapping and tap-hole filling under power-on conditions.

Further efficiency is also demonstrated by power consumption of less than 312kWh and oxygen consumption below 24m³ per ton. Reduced power consumption is helped by systems which preheat the scrap during melting and shorten power-on times.

Hubei Shunle placed the order for the furnaces with Primetals in 2018. The company produces a wide range of steel products, including steel wires, steel tubes and stainless steel.
