Plantmaker Danieli is to supply two DRI plants in the MENA region.

The first, at Emirates Steel Industry’s minimill 2 in Abu Dhabi, UAE is already under construction and will lead to production startup of DRI and meltshop later this year.

The other DRI plant, which has a design capacity of 1.9Mt/y, will be supplied to the Ezz Group and installed at Ain Soukna. It will feed the existing flat product minimill, which is being expanded into a flat and long product minimill complex.

Danieli already supplied the flat product minimill which has been in operation since 2002, a new caster and mill for long products as well as the meltshop upgrade. The Italian company is supplying the plants under the Energiron technology worldwide license agreement, a JV between Danieli and HYL Tenova.

The two Abu Dhabi Energiron DRI installations feature the HiTemp pneumatic hot DRI charge system for energy saving and cost reduction in the EAF. All the DRI-based minimill complexes for long and flat products are supplied on a turnkey basis.
