China’s imports of iron ore in the first 4-months 2012 reached 244.6Mt up 6.48% on the year previous.

Steel scrap imports also increased 12.16% to 1.83Mt.

Imports of coke fell 99.3% and represented a mere 56t while pig iron imports fell -65.2% to 148.4kt.

Other than ore, finished steel represented the largest import category at 4.58Mt but this was down 18.48% on the year previous. In contrast, exports of finished steel grew 10.16% to 16.8Mt. Exports of coke fell -82.8% to 288.7Mt.
