Both net and gross Chinese exports rose again in March, up some 24.6% and 33.7% respectively from February’s levels.
Total steel exports nearly doubled from the year-ago period in March to 3.3Mt.
According to Chinese customs data, steel exports were up about 99.4% y-o-y in March. Total exports in Jan-Mar were 8.7Mt up 69.5%.
Rolled imports in March were 1.6Mt, up 28.3% y-o-y. Total imports in Jan-Mar were 4.1Mt, up 27.3% y-o-y.
There were no exports of ingot/semis in March while imports were 80kt. Coke exports were 40kt, while total exports in Q1 was 130kt, down 12.8% y-o-y.
Iron ore imports resumed momentum after a decline in February, imports in March were 59Mt while imports in Jan-Mar were 155.03mt, up 18% y-o-y.
