China Steel Corporation (CSC) of Taiwan celebrated its 100Mt of hot rolled steel output from its 1730mm hot strip mill (HSM) #1 coil production line.
The HSM#1 mill, located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is one of four hot flat rolling mills in the CSC group, Taiwan’s only integrated steelmaker and slab producer.
The HSM#1 was originally built in 1982, by Japanese Mitsubishi Heavy Industries using General Electric electrical and automation equipment.
The mill began production with two reheating furnaces, stand alone vertical edger, one reversing roughing mill with two edgers, six stand finishing mill, and two down coilers.
Since initial start-up, the mill has undergone several major upgrades to modernise its electrical and automation equipment and to expand production.
The latest modernisation project was undertaken in 2003, when major upgrades to the mechanical and electrical equipment were implemented both on the entry and exit side of the rolling mill. GE Industrial Systems (now TMEIC-GE Automation Systems) has been fully involved in all modernisation projects since 1982.
