Steelworks in the Tangshan area of Hebei Province received another notice asking them to halt production after the Chinese National Day holiday in October.

As a result, October crude steel production is expected to be lower than that in September, itself down on September 09.

Hebei Province produced 8.365Mt of crude steel in September 2010, down 34.8% y-o-y. The highest production in the region occurred in April when 14.384Mt was produced.

Domestic iron ore production was also affected by the power cuts. September saw iron ore output of 93.547Mt, but still up 9.4% y-o-y. Pig iron production suffered a 6% y-o-y fall at the same time.

In Hebei Province, pig iron production in September suffered a 31.8% y-o-y fall while iron ore output experienced a 12.9% y-o-y rise.
