Binding Solutions Limited (BSL) has produced Cold Agglomerated Pellets (CAPs) from pellet fines, a by-product of the bulk handling and transportation of iron ore pellets.
The company successfully converted pellet fines from both blast furnace and direct reduction ore preparation processes into CAPs with low binder addition.
The CAPs have specifications equivalent to seaborne indurated pellets.
Jon Stewart, CEO of BSL, said: “We are excited to confirm that we are converting pellet fines from the processing and handling of iron ore into high-grade pellets for steel making.
“Our energy-efficient CAPs are produced at low temperatures, deliver energy and emissions savings of over 80% and can be designed for a variety of iron ore types, making them commercially competitive while greening the steel industry.”
The pellets also demonstrated strong physical and metallurgical results in testing, further indicating their suitability for re-introduction in to steelmaking furnaces.
BSL will continue to expand R&D activities at its Technology Centre to provide a growing rand of by-product and primary solutions to mining and steel companies.
