British Steel has stated it is ready to work with the UK Government on the recently announced Northern Powerhouse Rail project.

The rail project is part of the new Northern Growth Strategy, and aims to bring faster rail links, shorter commutes and better jobs to communities in the north of England.

In a post on their website, British Steel outlined: “The strategy is an example of how British-made steel underpins major national infrastructure, supporting jobs and communities, across the UK.

“Which is why we welcomed Rachel Reeve’s comments at Labour Party conference last year, promoting the use of British-made steel in public sector contracts.”

To help further boost the steel sector, British Steel recently launched the 'Save Steel Buy British Campaign'.

So far, key figures such as Luke Myer MP and Sir Nic Dakin have set out their support for this campaign.
