Siemens VAI has received an order from ArcelorMittal Monlevade to supply components for the expansion of the João Monlevade steel mill in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The order includes equipment for an LD (BOF) converter, hot-metal supply and associated secondary dust-cleaning systems.
The project has a total value of more than €20M, and is scheduled to be completed in 2012.
ArcelorMittal Monlevade is a long product manufacturer with a production capacity of 1.2Mt/y of crude steel. The company is carrying out an expansion programme which will double capacities throughout the process chain.
Both of the 130t LD (BOF) converter plants will be equipped for parallel operation.
Siemens will design and supply the hot-metal desulphurization station, ladles, deslagging stands, the ladle and slag pot transfer cars, and the associated electrical and automation equipment.
The material-feeding system will be expanded, and its alloying capacity doubled.
The order also includes two secondary dust-cleaning systems with cleaning capacities of 800000 and 1000000 m3/h respectively.
