Bhilai Steel Plant has signed a contractual agreement with MECON for the engineering, procurement, construction and management consultancy services for a 3.44Mt/year crude steel expansion project.
The plant, which is part of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), currently has a crude steel production capacity of 7Mt/year, with the proposed expansion taking this to more than 10Mt/year by 2030/31.
The signing of the agreement marks the commencement of the implication phase of the project.
