Baosteel has successfully started up its two-strand caster No.6 from Primetals Technologies at its Baoshan plant in Shanghai.
Primetals supplied the mechanical equipment, Level 1 and 2 automation systems, and provided construction and implementation services.
Primetals also highlighted that the mechanical design concepts and state-of-the-art digital solutions enable the caster to produce both conventional steel grades and high-end slabs.
Furthermore, multiple intelligent process and quality control systems were integrated, including the Dynacs 3D secondary cooling system and the DynaGap 3D soft reduction system, which ensure internal slab quality reaches industry-leading levels.
Over several decades, Baosteel and Primetals have successfully implemented more than 20 casters.
Baosteel is part of the China Baowu Steel Group Corporation, with other plants in Wuhan, Meishan, and Zhanjiang.
