US steel mills shipped 8.4Mt (net tons), a 28.7% increase from the 6.53Mt (net tons) shipped in August 2020, according to figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

Shipments were up 1.5% from the 8.27Mt (net tons) shipped during the previous month (July 2021). Shipments year-to-date in 2021 are 62.6Mt (net tons), a 16.5% increase when compared with 2020 shipments of 53.7Mt (net tons) for eight months.

A comparison of shipments year-to-date in 2021 to the first eight months of 2020 shows the following changes: corrosion-resistant sheet and strip, up 23%, cold rolled sheet, up 17%, and hot rolled sheet, up 11%.
