The Institut Bauen und Umwelt (IBU) – loosely translated to the Institute of Construction and the Environment – has taken on a new member.
ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steelmaker, claims that joining the IBU will give the company’s steel products for the construction industry reliable, worldwide recognition in terms of their sustainability credentials.
The Germany-based IBU specialises in the sustainability labelling of construction products and materials and, claims ArcelorMittal, is one of the most renowned Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) programme operators. It is recognised worldwide for its reviewers’ expertise.
EPDs are increasingly required by companies working in and supplying to the construction industry. “They are based on a life cycle assessment of a product, and include detailed information on its potential environmental impact,” claims ArcelorMittal.
