The World Steel Association has awarded Alacero a ‘Climate Action’ certificate, issued to those organisations and companies in the steel industry that shared data on CO2 emissions during the last year.

The certificate recognizes Alacero as one of the organizations that reported greenhouse gas emissions from the production plants of its members in Latin America during 2012 and 2013.

It is important to highlight that the methodology developed by worldsteel has been used to develop a new ISO standard that defines a method to calculate the intensity of CO2 emissions in steel and iron production. This standard -available since March 2013- is based on the data collection methodology used by the industry during the past 5 years.

Launched in 2007, the CO2 emissions count of the Worldsteel Association is aimed to give steel producers and other shareholders a reliable benchmarks. The number of organizations participating in the programme has been growing steadily, from 38 in 2007 to 51 in 2011, representing more than 200 steel plants worldwide.
