World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 154.4Mt in January 2020, a 2.1% increase when compared with January 2019.

China’s crude steel production for January 2020 was 84.3Mt, an increase of 7.2% compared to last year while India produced 9.3Mt, down 3.2%. Japan produced 8.2Mt of crude steel, down 1.3%, South Korea’s crude steel production was 5.8 Mt, a decrease of 8% on January 2019.

In the European Union, Italy produced 1.9Mt of crude steel in January 2020, down by 4.9% on January 2019. France produced 1.3 Mt of crude steel, up 4.5%.

The USA produced 7.7Mt of crude steel in January 2020, an increase of 2.5% compared to January last year while in Brazil the figure was 2.7Mt, down 11.1%.

In Turkey, crude steel production for January 2020 reached 3Mt, up 17.3%.

Crude steel production In Ukraine was 1.8Mt last month, down 0.4% on previous year.
