World crude steel production for the 65 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 132Mt in August 2015, down 3% compared to August 2014.

China’s crude steel production for August 2015 was 66.9Mt, down 3.5% compared to August 2014, and Japan produced 8.8Mt of crude steel in August 2015, a decrease of 5.8% compared to August 2014.

Germany produced 3.4Mt of crude steel in August 2015, up 10.7% compared to August 2014, while France’s figure for August 2015 was 1Mt, a decrease of 1.5%. Italy produced 1Mt of crude steel in August 2015, up 1.3% on August 2014.

Turkey’s crude steel production for August 2015 was 2.6Mt, down 11.8% on the same period last year.

Meanwhile, Russia produced 6Mt of crude steel, down by 3.2% over August 2014. Ukraine produced 1.9Mt of crude steel, up 8.6% compared to the same period in 2014.

The US produced 7Mt of crude steel in August 2015, down by 9.7% while Brazil produced 2.8 Mt, a decrease of 5.4%.

In the Middle East, Iran produced 1.2Mt of crude steel in August 2015, down by 6.2% compared to August 2014.

The crude steel capacity utilisation ratio for the 65 countries in August 2015 was 68% – 3.6 percentage points lower than August 2014. Compared to July 2015, it is 0.4 percentage points lower.
