Swedish value-added steel producer SSAB and Stockholm-based Hexicon AB, a leading designer and developer of floating solutions for the growing offshore renewable energy market, have joined forces to develop far offshore platforms.

Henrik Baltscheffsky, CEO of Hexicon, said, “This agreement is an important milestone in (sic) further development of our patented solutions,” adding that far offshore wind power is ‘more easily scalable and a prime source of renewable energy.

Baltscheffsky said that Hexicon’s technology offered competitive advantages for the long-term renewable market. Melker Jernberg, head of SSAB EMEA, said that the Hexicon patent will make good use of SSAB’s WELDOX high strength structured steel product.
