The American Iron and Steel Institute’s (AISI) 2014 Annual Statistical Report shows that US steel production, shipments and imports all increased during 2014 when compared with the previous year.

According to the AISI, total and finished steel imports increased to ‘near record levels’ as imports accounted for a 28% share of US apparent steel supply.

US steel shipments increased by 3% to 98Mt when compared with 2013 figures and were up by 6% from the most recent five-year average of 93Mt. US raw steel production was up by 1% to 97Mt in 2014 and the largest markets for American steel were automotive and construction.
