US steel mills shipped 7.7Mt (net tons) of steel in February 2019, according to figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). The figure represents a 4.2% decrease from Janaury 2019’s figures of just over 8Mt (net tons), but was up 2.9% on February 2018 figures. Shipments to date in 2019 total 15.8Mt (net tons), up 4.4% when compared with 2018 shipments over the same period of 15.1Mt (net tons).
When comparing February 2019 shipments with January 2019 shipments, hot rolled sheet was up 2% while cold rolled sheet was down 3%. Hot dipped galvanised sheets and strip were down 4%.
