Tenova Core, in conjunction with Tenova Pyromet (South Africa), has recently been contracted to design and supply a 12.5MVA submerged arc furnace (SAF) for Armstrong World Industries’ new manufacturing plant, located in Millwood, West Virginia.

The Armstrong plant will manufacture mineral fibre from blast furnace slag, ferroalloys smelter slag and other molten minerals by spinning at high temperatures.

The SAF will feature advanced electrode clamping technology and a single phase transformer with three independent on-load tap changes as well as state-of-the-art process control systems.

The SAF installation is expected to be completed in 2011 and the plant will be in full production in 2012.
