The Iron and Steel Society – a Division of UK’s Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoM3) – has organised a series of five one day seminars designed to inform managers at all levels of the strategies that are being adopted in the steel industry to address the following issues:
– Environmental challenges
– The Impact of Globalisation
– Product Focus and Diversity
– Steelplant Technology
The first seminar takes place on 6 October in Sheffield and will address all four topics with subsequent seminars devoted to each in turn.
At the inaugural seminar there will be two presentations on each topic that will address the extremes eg on the impact of globalisation there will be one presentation describing a global manufacturing strategy and the other on supplying niche products to a global marketplace from a UK manufacturing base.
The seminars will be held at six monthly intervals. The venue for the first seminar is ‘The Edge, the University of Sheffield, Sheffield, S10 3ED’
with subsequent ones being held in the traditional steelmaking areas of Scunthorpe, Teesside, South Wales and Rotherham/ Sheffield.
The fee is £100 plus VAT.
