Following the conclusion of negotiations between SSAB Group and the company's employees in Finland, the Swedish steelmaker has decided there will be a need for temporary lay-offs averaging three weeks between April and June 2020.

The lay-offs are in response to weakened market conditions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The lay-offs apply to all Finnish operations excluding the subsidiaries Ruukki Construction and Tibnor. The exact timing of lay-offs will depend on the workload situation of the various functions and production lines. Steel production capacity will be cut in line with weakened demand and one of the blast furnaces at the steel mill in Raahe will be temporarily idled in April.
