The energy consumption in steelmaking is estimated to drop to 590kg standard coal per tonne of steel this year. Nationwide coal consumption by the steel sector is estimated to grow 1% year on year to 600Mt this year.

The crude steel output is expected to grow 3.1% y-o-y to 740Mt this year, while pig iron output is expected to rise 3.5% y-o-y to 680Mt, supported by steel demand from investment in social housing construction and rail.
