Saarstahl AG’s Neunkirchen works in Germany’s Saarland municipality has placed an order with SMS Group for a new wire rod outlet.
According to SMS the new equipment will enable the company to react faster and more flexibly to customer needs.
The new wire rod outlet will be installed downline of the existing intermediate train stands and parallel to the current rolling line. A four-stand MEERdrive forms the core of the system but there are also cooling sections arranged partly in a loop, a high-speed shear, a loop laying head, loop laying conveyor (with 3-fan technology), a coil stand with dividing shear and an extension to the pallet transport system.
The high speed shear, claims SMS, can crop rolled bar at a maximum speed of 85 metres/second and will be installed upstream of the MEERdrive block. Quick change facilities on the MEERdrive will facilitate faster changing times and the loop cooling conveyor enables greater temperature uniformity in wire rod coils when compared with conveyors using single-fan technology as opposed to three.
The loop cooling section will be commissioned at the beginning of 2016 and the rest by the summer of that year
A 10-stand finishing block will be moved into the new section and by Q1 2017 will go into production, claims SMS.
