Siemens Metals Technologies and LanzaTech have signed a ten-year co-operation agreement to develop and market environmental solutions for the steel industry, using the fermentation technology developed by LanzaTech which transforms carbon-rich off-gases into low carbon ethanol.
The biological fermentation process uses energy contained in steel plant off-gases to convert CO and CO2 into ethanol and precursor chemicals for a range of applications. Siemens and LanzaTech will work together on process integration and optimisation, and on the marketing and realisation of customer projects.
